Educating Teenagers About Drinking and Driving

Tags: , , , ,

The number one cause of death amongst youngster between the ages of 15 and 24 is drunk driving and so educating your teenagers about the dangers of drinking and driving is particularly important, not only for their own protection but for the protection of other road users and pedestrians. The first mistake which many parents make in this area is to assume that they do not need to raise the subject until their own teenagers learn to drive. You do not need to be behind the wheel of a car to understanding the dangers of drunk driving and, like everything else you teach your children, the earlier they learn the more likely the lessons are to stick. When it comes to the consequences of drunk driving teenagers need to fully understand just what it means to kill another person on the road and the devastating impact which this can have on their family and friends. But they also need to realize that many people are also injured as a result of drunk driving and they and their families may have to live with the consequences of severe injury for the rest of their lives. This is not always easy for a teenager to understand but it is a lesson which they need to learn. It is also important for teenagers to fully understand the consequences of being caught behind the wheel of a car while intoxicated. So, find out about the drink driving laws in your state and clearly spell out the consequences of a drink driving conviction. Explain to them that a drink driving conviction can not only land them in jail, but can also ruin their career prospects and prevent them from getting a good job. Now, despite your best efforts, it is still quite possible that your teenager is going to find himself in the position of having had too much to drink when he is out with the car and being caught between driving the car home when he knows he is not fit to do so, or calling you and getting yelled at for being so irresponsible. So, this too is something which you need to discuss with him before it happens.Remember that we all do silly things when we are young and the most important thing is to stay safe, learn our lesson and live to try again to get it right next time. So, if your child is in this position he must know that he can call you no matter what condition he is in or what time of the day or night it is to come and pick him up.This is not to say that you are condoning his actions in getting drunk or that he should not be punished for his irresponsibility. But your first job is to keep him safe and make him realize that he made the right, sensible and mature decision by calling you for help. Finally remember that there is no better way to teach your children anything than through your own example and that means making sure that you never drink and drive yourself. If your children see you leaving your car keys at home and taking a taxi to go out to a party then they will follow suit.

Teenagers Education – Just For Parents

Tags: , , ,

I wrote an article to bring up what I consider a crucially important issue: “Teenagers And High School Teachers”. Bring up the chair, and you be the judge.

High School teachers can influence our teenagers to the point of shaping and sculpting them, As a result of such power, I was wondering if a teacher gets a job based on a college degree OR if that teacher has demonstrated how to teach in addition to a college degree. In my article, I wrote “There seems to be very few parents realizing and comprehending how critically important it is to have not only well prepared and skilled teachers knowledgeable in one subject or science, but teachers who must inescapably be proficient to execute what is vital and crucial: How To Teach.”

* Will it be possible that teenagers failing in High School is because nature made a mistake in not providing them with intelligence and normal intellect ?

* Will it be possible that teenagers failing in High School is because they confront teachers who were not demanded to have mandatory skills on how to teach ?

If a teenager develops normally, it is then highly unlikely that his brain ~at an early stage in life~ cannot assimilate knowledge. It is a fact that nature’s designer decided that ~more than at any age~ our teen years is when our brain is wide open to acquire knowledge and to develop aptitudes and talents. It leads me to deduce that ~when something is not well in High School~ it may not be that a young mind fails because nature made a mistake, but it may be that the process of proficiently and correctly pass knowledge on is the one failing.

As an editor, publisher, and parent, I felt compelled to write about this critical issue in the hope that you ~as a parent I presume~ may have wanted to read about something that has the power to detrimentally affect your teenager’s life, to adversely influence the initial stages of his life, and to potentially do the same to a good portion of his adult life.

We parents have many obligations. An inescapable obligation is to become conscientious that our teenagers may not be in the best position to speak up confronting what they likely perceive as an intimidating establishment of adults determined to admit no wrong-doings, but to flip the pancake over ~so to speak~ washing their hands when claiming that it is our teenagers the ones on the wrong side of matters.

We parents we are our teenagers’ best asset, and we must ensure their success in life rather than choosing a path of least resistance being unconcerned during the most formative chapters of their lives.

Sex Education

Tags:

Sex education is broad term that encompasses a wide range of topics that relate to human sexual anatomy, sexual intercourse, sexual reproduction, reproductive health, reproductive rights, contraception, and other facets of human sexual behavior. Sex education can be a part of school programs but it can also be informally taught by parents or guardians or through various public health campaigns.

Sex education may also pertain to ‘sexuality education,’ which means that it also covers all perspectives about human sexuality. As such, it would integrate discussions about reproduction, family planning, and all the elements of one’s sexuality. Human sexuality in itself is a scopic term which takes into account body image; sexual orientation; morals and values; communication and decision making; dating and relationships. Also included are more sensitive topics such as sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and birth control methods.

As aforementioned sex education can be taught informally, such as discussing the matter with parents or friends. It can also be imparted by religious leaders, advocate groups, government campaigns or through mass media. The subject can also be effectively delivered through sex self-help authors, newspaper and magazine articles, or through a number of sex education websites.

Sex education from the onset of its conception to date has remained a sensitive and controversial issue in several nations. There are schools that incorporate sex education as a full course as part of the curriculum, particularly in junior high school or high school. In other instances, it just forms part of a broader topic such as biology, health and fitness or physical education. There are schools with no sex education in their curriculum, since there has been much debate as to the age at which students ought to be exposed to such sensitive topics, the amount of information that should be taught, and topics dealing with human sexual behavior.

Whenever sex education is subjected to debates, the primary argument is whether discussing sexuality is beneficial or detrimental among teenagers. Among the points of contention are the use of birth control, teenage pregnancy, abortion and the transmission of diseases. It has been revealed that countries with conservative outlook towards sex education tend to have a higher incidence of teenage pregnancy and STIs.

Other pressing issues have come to the fore and have fueled a new sense of urgency to the topic of sex education. Perhaps the most glaring example is the unprecedented spread of the AIDS virus. In Africa for instance, where AIDS has reached pandemic proportions, sex education is viewed by experts as a key component in developing an effective public health strategy.

The Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS) reported that 93% of adults who took part in their survey professed support for sex education in high school and 84% expressed support to have sex education introduced in junior high school. Moreover, 88% of parents of junior high school students and 80% of parents of high school students believe that formal sex education would make it easier for them to candidly talk to their teenagers about sex.
